Kelly Virginia - by Kip Calahan August 2001

A family had a job to do, it didn’t matter she was young.
By the shade of a mesquite bush, she’d play till they were done.
She grew up in Arizona, on the Slaughters Ranch.
Not afraid of a hard days work, she learned to hunt and brand.
Her yellow hair in a pony tail like the yellow horse she’d ride,
Sitting tall in the saddle, Dad and Grandad by her side.
Gatherin’ cattle or huntin’ lions, she worked more than she played.
Spent some time in Houston but Arizona is where she stayed.

CHORUS
She’s a huntress, a cowgirl like no other, a wife and a mother
As steady as the mule that she rides.
Tough as a thorn, soft as a rose, living out the life she chose.
She’s a ray of sunshine at first light, she’s a star in the night.

Now her little girl is five years old with the same yellow hair,
Born with a rope in her hands, living life without a care.
Side by side with her mom she’ll ride from dawn to setting sun,
But you won’t hear them complain, there’s work to be done.

CHORUS
She’s a huntress, a cowgirl like no other, a wife and a mother
As steady as the mule that she rides.
Tough as a thorn, soft as a rose, living out the life she chose.
She’s a ray of sunshine at first light, she’s a star in the night.
